About APPLEBOX
(www.applebox.com.au)
APPLEBOX spearheads the “Retail 2.0” movement that creates new economies and opportunity by merging online technology with the traditional shop presence. In the home entertainment industry, APPLEBOX re‐invents the local video store and positions it for the future.
The local video store is rapidly becoming a victim of rising lease and labour costs, with the attractive margins of the industry from the late ‘90s fast disappearing. APPLEBOX solves this problem as it poses the question “why use 150 sqm of shop space to physically display DVDs, when 10,000 DVDs can fit in a tallboy chest, and large screen monitors can give members a much improved way to find a movie to watch?”.
APPLEBOX has slashed fixed operating costs and, in an era of Internet convenience, has delivered new relevance to the local video store. Operating out of 35 sqm (20% the size of a traditional store), half of APPLEBOX members do all their browsing and renting from home, and simply drop through to the store to pick up their DVD. With 18 months of trading APPLEBOX is now preparing their franchise strategy to grow and bring a new engaging experience to local DVD rental.
APPLEBOX has been recognised as a Smart 100 innovation and has been placed at #51.
