Regional Victoria company set to revolutionise the global cattle industry

Based in Regional Victoria, Duo Tags has developed and patented a revolutionary livestock identification tag, ideally applicable for cattle monitoring systems. Duo Tags provide an increased cost and time effective solution as the world’s first dual tag system. The tag design has a world patent, allowing the potential for further global market introduction.
Duo Tags is currently working on the development of overseas partnerships to expand and diversify their commercialisation process.
As one of the world’s largest cattle breeder and beef exporter, Brazil has been identified as an ideal international target market for Duo Tags.
According to John Steinfort, Managing Director of Duo Tags, Brazil is a priority because “(Duo Tags is) aware of the very large Brazilian cattle population and the country’s endeavours to expand their export markets into Europe and elsewhere. Cattle traceability is pivotal to this process and we are well placed to provide suitable tagging systems that will support these endeavours.”
Business Strategy International (BSI) South America Gateway has been engaged by Duo Tags to assist them in gaining access to the Brazilian market.
BSI have conducted extensive market research to define the best entry strategy for Duo Tags. This strategy encompasses optimising their taxation structure under the Brazilian manufacturing and importing legislation, in conjunction with the current Australian EMDG scheme.
Candida Costa, Manager of the BSI South America Gateway understands that South America presents great business opportunities for Australian companies. “Agribusiness and Mining are by far the most popular collaboration sectors between the regions, but opportunities in IT, events management and media & communication are also abundant. Local (South American) companies and entrepreneurs are eager to bring new technologies into their market and Australia has highly innovative companies – our clients have been very successful in securing local commercial partners in Brazil.”
In September 2008, Duo Tags formalised a partnership agreement with a Brazilian company that will drive local sales and marketing in collaboration with them, whilst Duo Tags will supply products and IP.
Duo Tags envisages 50% of their sales will come out of the Brazilian market in 2009.
