Softex estimates that in 2008, there were around 380 thousand professional working in IT in Brazil
Net income of the Brazilian software and services industry is set to reach next to $ 57.7 billion in 2010. The export volume will be $ 9.9 billion in the same year. These are Softex’s – the country’s support network for Brazilian software and services companies - projections presented on Wednesday (25/11). According to the entity, the market is growing about 9.3% over the past few years.
The survey is based on and crossed with official information on the segment in Brazil. The survey collected data from sources such as the National Classification of Economic Activities (CNAE) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
Softex identified the existence of 66.8 thousand software and service companies in Brazil. The number depicts the year 2007. Softex explains that the gap of two years is due to periodic surveys and update cycle bases of IBGE.
In any case, Softex estimates that annual growth in the volume of systems and services projects of approximately 4.8%. "But the figures could be even higher due to a steeper market growth," said Arnaldo Bacha, Softex’s vice-president.
84.3% of enterprises have up to four employees and 13%, from five to nineteen staff. It is interesting to notice that only 2.7% have more than twenty professional and yet, this small percentage is with 76.1% of net revenues in the sector. Approximately 69% of them are located in the Southeast region of Brazil, comprising Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and Espirito Santo.
By integrating a number of different sources, the study achieves a detailed picture of the labour force in the software industry and services. According to the survey, in 2007, the industry employed 410 thousand people, with about 100 thousand directly linked directly to production.
Softex was also able to map the number of professionals working in the IT departments of companies that have software and service as a core activity. In 2005 this group represented 284.9 thousand people (of which 1.138 in the position of directors and managers 10.118). In 2008, this number should be close to 380 thousand professionals.
